Teeth Whitening Myths

You might have considered undergoing a teeth whitening treatment. Most of the people have considered buying products online that they can use for whitening teeth. However, there are myths of teeth whitening that cause people to avoid teeth whitening procedure. The following are some of the myths:

Myth 1: Teeth Whitening Ruins Teeth

This is a myth which is not generally true. The myth states that whitening products use hydrogen peroxide for teeth cleaning.

Acidic products remove enamel from the teeth. Therefore you should look for teeth whitening products which have high PH (low acidity). By considering acidity, you need to be aware that daily consumption of orange juice is shown in the lab to soften tooth enamel, contrary to hydrogen peroxide. If used correctly hydrogen peroxide will not ruin your teeth.

Myth 2: Teeth Whitening Is Not Safe

This is a myth which is not true. Cosmetic teeth bleaching has been used for more than 100 years. Most of the recognized dentists have been using hydrogen peroxide based whitening for over 100 years. They endorse bleaching as a means of whitening teeth by following simple steps. A specialized supplier of teeth whitening products encloses sufficient instruction for using the products safely.

Myth 3: Teeth Whitening Lasts Forever

This is another myth which is false. When your teeth are whitened, they will slowly pick up and gain stains again. The results obtained by using teeth whitening products may only last for six months with examples very clear at most dental office locations.

Myth 4: Toothpaste Used for Whitening Can Cause Teeth Bleaching

Whitening tooth paste contains abrasives that scrub the stains at the surface of your teeth. To make the teeth look shiner, some of the tooth paste brands contain chemical polishing agents. However, very few tooth paste selections have bleaching agents.

Myth 5: Teeth Whitening Causes Oral Cancer

This is a false myth since teeth whitening does not cause oral cancer. Since chemicals are used as a whitening agent, people in general associate cancer with chemicals. Several studies have been done and it has been proven that chemicals such as carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide do not cause cancer.

Myth 6: Teeth Whitening Damages the Nerves

This is another rumor which is common among cosmetic dentists which states that teeth whitening can damage the nerves. If the chemicals are not correctly used, it will defiantly cause some damage to your teeth. Nevertheless, regulations have been put in place to ensure that there is no damage caused when whitening the teeth.
